ARAB INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION FOR TOURISM & AUTOMOBILE CLUBS
AIA is a not-for-profit company limited by guaranty which was formed in England on August 7, 1989
The AIA was founded and became an umbrella organization for auto clubs and travel companies in the Middle East and North Africa to issue CDP.
AIA’s principal purpose as a non-governmental organization with the United Nations is to disseminate information in order to increase public understanding of the principles, activities and achievements of the United Nations.
AIA’s Headquarters are located in Kuwait and there are currently fifteen active AIA affiliates.
The affiliates issue CPD in 11 Middle Eastern and North African countries in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Qatar, Sudan, Syria and the United Arab Emirates.
In each of these 11 countries, with local government permission, the AIA affiliates are legally entitled to issue CPD. CPD issued by the AIA clubs are accepted in each of those countries.

Thus, the purpose in founding the AIA was to “establish an international association of automobile and touring clubs situate principally in the Middle East

The objects for which the Association is established are:
(A) To establish an international association of automobile and touring clubs situate principally in the Middle East
(B) To establish a union between its members
Chiefly with a view to:
(1) Issuing Carnets de Passages en Douane, International Driving Licenses and such other documentation as may be required by its members for the temporary importation of private road vehicles principally throughout the Middle East. . . .
