World Traffic Day 2024
Every year on May 4th, the world celebrates World Traffic Day to commemorate the victims of road traffic accidents World Traffic 2024.
The world celebrates May 4 of each year, World Traffic Day 2024. This is to raise awareness of the seriousness of road accidents that cause thousands of deaths annually. The establishment of the day dates back to 1969 when it was approved by the Geneva Conference, and then adopted by the League of Arab States in 1972.
According to the annual report issued by the United Nations, the main cause of traffic accidents is due to two reasons, the first of which is reckless speed by drivers, and the second is the driver’s failure to adhere to traffic rules and speeds set on the roads.
There are many other reasons, such as wrong overtaking, irregular turns and stops, not leaving a safe distance between vehicles, and using a phone while driving. According to a United Nations report, road accidents are considered the second most important cause of death in the world. This is because it causes the death of more than one and a half million people annually between the ages of 5 and 30 years.
The United Nations aims for World Traffic Day to do the following:
-Remember all the people who are victims of traffic and road accidents around the world, even those who were seriously injured, leading to serious harm or disability.
-Recognizing the important work done by emergency personnel, police and doctors who deal with road accidents on a daily basis.
– Motivating governments to take strict measures to protect people from road accidents, and urging them to respond quickly and immediately to rescue the injured.
-Calling to support the families of victims of road accidents.
– Strengthening procedures that will prevent and reduce road accidents as much as possible.
